CAN'T BELIEVE THESE KNIVES ARE 3$ EACH!?!. So, right out the box the chef knife, panring knife and honing rod is great! Comes well protected, includes knife point guard and and enclosed in plastic wrap. The sheath is not included which is fine but it does come with this cardboard material sheath that protects the knife for shipping, which you can use temporarily until you get your own sheath for your knives. Every piece so far has it's own use of course but let's start with the chef knife. So the chef knife comes full tang and very well balanced, nice cylinder type handle, good grip and it has a Japanese type edge that extends from one end to the other. I love that this knife has this type of edge because it allows me to cut using the full length of the knife. Some knives come with the bolster extended into the blade preventing you from cutting all the way.(photo included)
Sharp and pretty light, which is good for my use because after chopping pounds of veggies the last thing you want is a heavy knife. I've used this knife on lemongrass, onions, tomatoes, pineapple, etc. The knife did very well on all occasions but... in a professional kitchen I couldn't resist the urge to sharpen the knife. Maybe it's a psychological problem I have due to fact that I like to keep all my knives sharp and in good shape. I tend to sharpen all my knives once a week and hone them before use through out the week just to keep them in good condition. The chef knife does come very sharp which I did mention and I think it would fit well for a home cook however, once the knife has been sharpen I believe it can compete with the best of them. The chef knife after being sharpened, I was able to fly through all my mise en place. I've honed the blade once before I start my day and didn't have to do it agian until the next day. The chef knife is a very simple knife. No designs, no thrills or frills, just a good solid chef knife and for only 3 bucks you can't go wrong with this choice. So far I love this knife and cant seem to stop using it given the chance and I look forward to see how it handles with more time and use. Now, on to the paring knife. Its the same as the chef knife but only about 3 inches in length. Comes full tang, sharp and very light weight. I brought this knife to only supreme fruits and it does an amazing job. I do intend to use it more on other things but for now it's my go supreme knife. However, my paring doesn't come with the knife edge going from point to point. The back point of the knife does have a slight thickness to it preventing you from using the full edge of the knife. It's fine for now but I do wish that it came with the edge extending from point to point. As for the honing rod, its great. Nothing much to it but it does the job it was ment to do. I use the honing rod usually before I start my mise and never really have to touch it agian until the next day thanks to the great knife sets I got.
So, for 3 bucks a piece you really stealing it at this price. I still can't believe that at this price you get a very good and quality knife. I would highly recommend this knife to other cooks and chefs. Whether you need a new knife or just a beater knife for when your on the go, this is the go to knife. As for now, I've had these knife sets for close to two weeks and I'm constantly using them for 8 to 10 hours a day and I have no regrets. I love my Brandless knife sets and look forward to trying out there other knives and kitchenware. From pans to knives to cooking utensils, almost all there stuff is for 3 bucks and I can't wait to see what else they have to offer.
